Who's afraid of the big, bad wolf ...?
Mood:  happy
Topic: Thought of the Day
What are you afraid of? We’ve talked about fear at times in these blogs. We’ve talked about how constrictive an emotion it is. We’ve talked about how fear leads to some of the most devastating emotions on earth; like worry and hate. But have you been able to shake it yet? I haven’t, and the chances of that are pretty low I think. I think we all need fear at times. When Roosevelt said, “We have nothing to fear except fear itself” I think he was talking from a higher point of view, from the perspective of hope, and he’s right – there is no place for fear in hope.

So, is fear good or is it bad? As Neale Donald Walsch would say, “… there is no good or bad, only that which serves you and that which does not serve you …” Along those lines fear can be a wonderful personal tool. Like so many things we can try to choose fear. Fear is an excellent motivator and protector. Of course the choice of fear is not always easy. So often fear merely springs on us and we are experiencing it before we even knew it was there. That is the ego in action protecting the self. But once experienced we can choose to use that fear to our advantage or let it go. For instance if you are attacked and being mugged, the chances of fear springing on you are high. This may also be a good time to let fear motivate you into running! Now, if you’ve just lost your job, you may end up being afraid of being out of work for a very long time. You might choose to let this fear motivate you into looking for another job (although there are other motivators for that), but if you let this fear turn into worry it will eat away at our soul – this serves no one.

Check your fears; if they serve you keep them – if they cause you anxiety, worry, hate or a plethora of other corrosive emotions, then try to choose something other than fear.
